Part 1

Once upon a time, in a small sunlit apartment nestled above a bakery, lived a little black-and-gray cat named Luna. She had a pink bow always perched neatly between her ears—her favorite thing in the world, given to her by the girl who used to cradle her every night. Luna’s days were filled with warmth. She’d nap on windowsills, chase dust mites, and curl up on the couch during movie nights. She didn’t understand much of the human world, but she understood love. And she knew she was loved.

Part 2

But one day, everything changed. The laughter stopped. The voices grew distant and cold. Then, the door opened… and closed behind her. It wasn’t her fault, she thought. She had meowed, scratched, cried to be let back in, but her humans never returned. With her bow fraying and her belly aching, Luna wandered the cold streets until she found an alleyway. There were no soft cushions here—only rusted cans, wet cardboard, and the occasional stale crust of bread.

Part 3

Nights were the worst. Cold winds slipped through the cracks of buildings, and mean stray cats chased her from their territory. She’d curl up behind a dumpster, shivering, eyes wide, ears low. But Luna never let go of the bow. One morning, as rain drizzled and puddles soaked her tiny paws, a gentle voice pierced the silence. “Oh no… look at you.” Two kind hands wrapped her in a towel. Luna didn’t resist. She didn’t have the strength to run anymore.

She woke up in a warm room. It smelled like soap and safety. Her wounds were cleaned, her ribs no longer visible, and her bow—washed and mended—was tied back around her ears. They called it a “shelter.” Luna didn’t know what that meant, but she liked the word. It felt like a new kind of love. One week later, a woman with soft eyes and an even softer voice lifted her into a carrier. “You’re coming home, sweetheart.” The new apartment had a sunlit window just like before. A food bowl with her name. Toys. A quiet lullaby of kindness. And every night, she slept curled against her new human, pink bow resting gently between her ears. She was home again.
